With the narrow gauge tourist railway of” Voies Ferrées du Velay”, you can travel though meadows and forests. The region has a lot of marked tracks ideal for rambling and for mountain biking. The tourist Board of “Haut Pays du Velay” has a short walks guide “le Haut Pays du Velay à pied”, with walks starting from each of the 8 communes.(ref: p436).There are also a lot of long distance walks, in particular the St Jacques de Compostelle (Genève - Le Puy en Velay) and St François Régis (Haute Loire / Ardèche) Some signposted paths for mountain bikes are also available from the Tourist Board. This site is in the woods located in the village of l’Hermet (you have to take the direction of St Julien Molhesabate). You will discover a huge variety of trees and you can take picnic there if you wish.

MONTREGARD : Marcoux Castle ( XVI° century), this castle is the old residence of Louise de Romezin, a Protestant who was converted to Catholicism by St Jean François Régis. This castle has been entirely restored and is open in July and August. Should you require further details : 04 77 33 85 65 You can also rent rooms in the castle for private functions.
DUNIERES : This Romanesque church has been classified and listed by French Historical Monuments. This Church is unique in the Velay with 3 naves of equal height. Guided tours by appointement only for more information: 04 71 59 95 73 MONTFAUCON : Notre Dame’ Chapel was built in the neogotic style and restored in 1999. RIOTORD : Nave dates back to the 11th century. This church is famous for its Bible scenes which have been listed by Historical Monuments. CLAVAS: Cistercian Abbey, The site is famous for its pilgrimages at Whitsuntide Pentecost and on Saint Austrogésile’s day. This abbey is famous for its baroque altar of the 18th century which has been listed by Historical Monuments. Guided tours week ends in July and August, and by appointment all year round. The paintings were listed by the Historical Monuments on the 30th of October 1914. They are painted on wooden panels and they deal with two themes: a religious theme and a profane one.
